Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has lauded the 2025/2026 Budget as tailored to curb corruption in the civil service and reduce tax evasion among the rich.

Speaking at Masii Stadium in Mwala Constituency, Machakos County, on June 13, 2025, during a Youth and Women Empowerment forum, the Deputy President stated that the country was failing to meet its revenue targets due to “shortcuts” taken by some potential taxpayers.

Kindiki emphasised that there is a deliberate effort to close the loopholes that allow the rich to avoid paying taxes.

“The budget will ensure that those evading paying taxes, especially the rich, will begin paying. The reason we do not have enough resources is because of tax evasion,” Kindiki remarked.

He also clarified that there are no plans to increase taxes.

DP Kindiki announced a firm stance against public officials who corruptly enrich themselves at the expense of taxpayers, vowing to lead the fight against corruption personally.

“There are three pillars of the budget: zero tolerance to corruption, sealing loopholes to ensure there’s no tax evasion and making sure that we don’t add any new taxes,” he stated.

Kindiki noted that it is not productive to focus on future political matters when the country needs immediate solutions for its economy.

He expressed respect for Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, praising his approach to politics and promising to continue discussions with Musyoka to encourage him to join the government.

“Kalonzo is my elder brother; I can talk to him anytime,” Kindiki added.

Area MP Musyoka urged political leaders in the Ukambani region to unite in order to strengthen the community’s political influence on the national stage.

He emphasised that political unity is crucial for the Kamba community to enhance its position in national politics.

His call came after Deputy President Kindiki called on Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to join the government.

The MP pointed out that divisions and disputes among certain leaders in the region are undermining the election atmosphere and creating rifts within the community.
