Kalonzo: Current opinion polls show I am ahead of Ruto
Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has stated that he is leading ahead of President William Ruto in current opinion polls.
Speaking during a late-night event that extended into the early hours of Sunday, December 7, 2025, where lawyers from the southeastern block had converged, he insisted that as it currently stands, he is the topmost contender.
According to him, this is what has sparked conversations about the “50 per cent plus 1” scenario. However, he said it won’t happen because he is a strong contender for the presidency and is capable of unseating Ruto in the first round.

Kalonzo further emphasised that their main focus is to ensure that the United Opposition stays united. He warned that if they succeed in this focus, William Ruto will be a one-term president.
“As we speak, I am so much ahead of him in the opinion polls, so much ahead of him. That is why you have begun hearing of 50+1; we will not reach there,” he said.

Support from Luo Nyanza
He also noted that he is currently courting the Luo Nyanza nation, which is firmly behind him. He said the community has begun embracing him and is eager to work together.
He added that his recent visits to Luo Nyanza are part of a deliberate strategy to rally support from the community, which he said is listening to his message.

“And the Luo Nyanza – that is why you see me going there and reminding them. I can tell you the Luos are listening to us.”
He further showered praises on the Luo community, saying that they are one of the top communities in the country that values justice and democracy, and that their past partaking in the fight for democracy will long be remembered.
“If there is a community that believes in justice, it is Luo Nyanza; I even reminded them today,” he stated.
Support from other communities
He further stated that, according to his own research and intelligence, the level of support other communities are willing and ready to give him and the entire Kamba community to go for the presidency is 88 per cent, which, according to him, is the highest ever.
Kalonzo also pointed to the Kisii region, noting that former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is showing interest in joining his campaign.
