Kalonzo asks ODM to surrender parliament positions after PG meeting with UDA
Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has weighed in on what should take place immediately after the first session of a joint parliamentary group meeting between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Speaking at the LSK conference in Kwale on Friday, August 15, 2025, Kalonzo opined that holding the PG remains within the right of the two co-principals of the broad-based government. He, however, urged the ODM party to then formally accept its position as part of the government and vacate its opposition role.
Order of governance
“Ruto has called for a joint PG between UDA and ODM. It’s within their right to do so. But let them be decent; if you (Sifuna) attend that meeting at the state house on Monday, it will be for the good order and love of this country and governance and supremacy of our institutions that ODM acts,” he explained.
He particularly urged the minority leader of the national assembly, Junet Mohammed to step down from his role in line with the spirit of

“I want to suggest that the following day Junet, who is supposed to represent me in parliament as the majority leader, should immediately vacate and move now so that there will be good order,” he stated.
Ready to execute opposition role
He further added that the opposition remain keen on assuming their role as the government watchdog after Raila Odinga and his Orange Democratic Movement closed ranks with the Kenya Kwanza regime.
“They should move and join together so that we know the opposition within the opposition has a responsibility to have a new team. We have able and competent legislators like Babu Owino, who is here,” he stated.
This comes after Ruto announced a joint broad-based parliamentary forum will be held on Monday, August 18, with a focus on building strong mechanisms to implement their 10-point MoU and push the nation forward.
The announcement was preceded by Ruto and Raila unveiling the formation of a five-member committee to oversee the implementation of the NADCO Report and a 10-point national agenda.
Meanwhile, the foregoing comes even as the Orange Democratic Movement Party (ODM) remains adamant that they will not leave the broad-based government any time soon.
Speaking in President William Ruto’s home turf of Uasin Gishu county, Mbadi said they are in Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza-led government to stay, adding those prodding them to walk out were wasting their time.
“We are in the broad-based government, and we are not leaving anytime soon as anticipated by our critics,” Mbadi, who is a former Nominated ODM party MP, said.
