Former Roots Party 2022 presidential running mate Justina Wamae has taken a swipe at authorities over the planting of goons at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport ahead of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s touchdown.

Taking to her official X account on Thursday, August 21, 2025, Wamae wondered what mobilised goons were doing at JKIA, saying winning nicely does not mean working nicely in an attack against the current administration.

“Now, what are goons being stationed on the roads to do at the JKIA? I have always told you that begging nicely and winning is not the same as working properly! On top of failing in their duties, these people behave like thugs. I swear the bar is too low, like they are still way, way down there.” She said.

Her sentiments come amid heightened security at the JKIA ahead of the anticipated return of the former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, on Thursday, August 21, 2025, from the United States of America.

The heavy police deployment with water cannons and anti-riot trucks was spotted near the airport. This comes after the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala was confirmed to have formally notified the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja of plans to hold a peaceful procession from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Nairobi’s Central Business District before converging at the historic Kamukunji Grounds.

Earlier on, DCP had warned hired goons were mobilising to disrupt the homecoming of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following his month-long tour of the United States.

In its Thursday, August 21, 2025, statement, the party reported that groups of youths from Nairobi’s informal settlements have been assembled with the sole purpose of interfering with Gachagua’s convoy once he lands at JKIA later in the day.

“Goons ferried from Mathare, Kibera and Kayole are being organised to disrupt Gachagua’s convoy from JKIA. We will discipline them today,” the party cautioned.

DCP’s warning came hours after Malala accused senior government officials of orchestrating the plan.
