DCP warns against goons mobilised to disrupt Gachagua’s homecoming
Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has warned hired goons mobilising to disrupt the homecoming of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following his month-long tour of the United States.
In its Thursday, August 21, 2025, statement, the party reported that groups of youths from Nairobi’s informal settlements have been assembled with the sole purpose of interfering with Gachagua’s convoy once he lands at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) later in the day.
“Goons ferried from Mathare, Kibera and Kayole are being organised to disrupt Gachagua’s convoy from JKIA. We will discipline them today,” the party cautioned.
DCP’s warning comes hours after its Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala accused senior government officials of orchestrating the plan, pointing fingers at Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Beatrice Elachi and her Mkadara counterpart George Aladwa.
“Nairobi Governor, with the CS Interior, held meetings, and they have activated goons to cause harm to innocent citizens planning to receive Rigathi Gachagua at JKIA,” Malala said on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, in a press conference.
Cleophas Malala further assured Gachagua’s supporters across the country that alternative reception plans were in place should the government attempt to interfere with his arrival.
Alternative measures
“In the event Rigathi Gachagua’s plane is diverted to Kisumu or Mombasa, he will be received by our supporters from those respective regions. We call on the Nairobi business community to protect their property as the government has hired militia to wreak havoc in the CBD,” he warned.
Gachagua, who has been in the US for the past month engaging diaspora communities and international stakeholders, is expected to touch down in Nairobi to a charged political atmosphere. His homecoming has attracted widespread interest, with his allies framing it as a test of his political influence and resilience.
Security agencies are yet to respond to the allegations, but the DCP maintains that any attempt to use hired mobs to intimidate supporters will be resisted. On his part, Makadara Constituency Member of Parliament George Aladwa has cautioned the DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala to stop dragging him into the politics of deceit after linking the legislator to the Gachagua homecoming disruptions.
