Jubilee Party has called for opposition unity ahead of the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.

In a statement dated April 22, 2026, the party has urged coalition partners to rally behind a single candidate under its banner.

The party said it will field a candidate in the by-election following the death of Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho, who was a member of Jubilee.

“The Party will field a candidate in the upcoming Ol Kalou by-election, in line with the fact that the position was previously held by a member of Jubilee Party,” part of the statement read.

“In the spirit of building a credible, united, and formidable alternative government and in response to the growing call by Kenyans for opposition unity, Jubilee Party respectfully urges our coalition partners to support the fielding of a single opposition candidate under the Jubilee Party banner in the upcoming by-election.”

Unity in previous by-elections

Jubilee Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta said the party will conduct free, fair, and transparent nominations to select its candidate, assuring residents of a democratic process.

The party noted that Kenyans are increasingly demanding cooperation among opposition leaders, calling for solidarity over fragmentation in the political landscape.

The party cited previous instances where it stepped aside in favour of joint candidates, including in Mbeere North Constituency and the recent by-election in Emurua Dikirr Constituency, where opposition parties agreed on a single candidate.

“We are calling for cooperation over competition, solidarity over fragmentation, and strategy over short-term political interests,” the statement read.

“As partners in the United Alternative Government, we must remain faithful to this precedent, which we have continued to uphold in subsequent by-elections, most recently in Emurua Dikirr Constituency in Narok County, where we collectively agreed on a single opposition candidate.”

DCP aspirants

The Democratic for the Citizens Party (DCP) party leader, Rigathi Gachagua, has also announced that it will have a candidate in the forthcoming by-election in the Ol Kalou Constituency. He revealed that the party already had nine aspirants vying for the ticket.

Speaking in an interview with Kameme TV on Monday, April 20, 2026, Gachagua has promised his supporters that the party would hold free and fair nominations that would be transparent and democratic.

He observed that DCP would like the people of Olkalou to end up settling on who will be the flagbearer in the party during the by-election.

“DCP will field a candidate in the Olkalou constituency by-elections. DCP so far has 9 candidates for the by-elections, and I want to guarantee the people of Olkalou free and fair nominations for the party. We want to give the people the chance to decide on their candidate who will be our flagbearer,” Gachagua said.
