Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.

Mudavadi leaves for Egypt

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi is today, Tuesday, January 28, 2025, expected to jet out of the country for Cairo, Egypt.

Mudavadi’s trip is meant to sign bilateral agreements between Kenya and Egypt.

His trip to Cairo is a follow-up on four Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) signed between Kenya and Egypt in trade and investments, agriculture, tourism, energy, and infrastructure development on March 8, 2024.

“The deep bilateral agreements come less than a year after H.E. Dr. Mudavadi and his Egyptian counterpart, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry, on March 8th, 2024, signed four Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs), in trade and investments, agriculture, tourism, energy, and infrastructure development,” Jacob Ng’etich, the director of press service in the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, announced on Monday, January 27, 2025.

EACC Annual Report launch

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is expected to launch its annual report on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

The EACC Chairperson David Oginde and CEO Abdi Mohamud are expected to launch and release the EACC Annual Report for the Financial Year (FY) 2023/24 at 9:00 am to the public.

The report contains details of the commission’s activities and achievements for FY 2023/24, including the corruption reports received, investigations undertaken, files recommended to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for prosecution, cases completed in court, unexplained wealth and stolen public property recovered, corruption networks disrupted, and the persons and companies involved.

Reactions to Gachagua’s outburst

Leaders allied to President William Ruto are expected to continue reacting to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s outburst on Monday, January 27, 2025.

Gachagua lashed out at President Ruto over his recent development tour of the Western region.

Speaking on Monday, January 27, 2024, during the launch of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) new headquarters in Karen, Nairobi, Gachagua called out Ruto for corruption and termed his administration as a government of lies.The former Mathira Member of Parliament (MP) took issue with some of the projects Ruto launched in Western during his tour, stating that he had gone against the agreement he had signed with the Western region people.

Gachagua mocked the Head of State for what he termed as launching transformers during his Western tour, instead of fulfilling the 1000km road construction promise.

He further urged President Ruto to stop linking him to corruption, arguing that he has never been associated with any scandal in the country.
