Mudavadi departs for Cairo to sign bilateral agreements between Kenya and Egypt

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi is set to fly to Cairo, Egypt, for the signing of bilateral agreements between Kenya and Egypt.
The announcement was made by Jacob Ng’etich, the director of press service in the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary on Monday, January 27, 2025. Ng’etich says Mudavadi will fly to Cairo on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
“Kenya and Egypt have for decades enjoyed deep and lasting economic, diplomatic, and political relationship, and the Cairo visit seeks to strengthen it,” Ng’etich stated.
He says Mudavadi’s trip to Cairo is a follow up on four Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) signed between Kenya and Egypt in trade and investments, agriculture, tourism, energy and infrastructure development on March 8, 2024.
“The deep bilateral agreements come less than a year after H.E. Dr. Mudavadi and his Egyptian counterpart Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry, on March 8th, 2024 signed four Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs), in Trade and Investments, Agriculture, Tourism, Energy and Infrastructure development,” he stated.
Ng’etich says since the Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meeting in March 2024, both countries have finalized eight MOUs which are ready for signing during the state visit.
The MOUs are in the fields of political consultations, diplomatic training, investment facilitation, cooperation in ports, youth, higher education gender equality, and women empowerment.
Currently, Egypt is Kenya’s second largest tea importer after Pakistan.
“Kenya’s total average exports to Egypt were valued at approximately USD176.04 million while imports from Egypt were valued at approximately USD 340.10 million,” he added.
During the visit, Mudavadi is also expected to lobby for the Egyptian support to the Raila Odinga’s candidature for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson position in February.
