Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has advocated for an all-encompassing approach to the formation of political alliances.

Speaking during the unveiling of the new DAP-K party headquarters in Nairobi on Monday, January, 27,2025, Musyoka challenged parties in the opposition faction to be ready to shelve individual interests and form a potent coalition capable of toppling President William Ruto’s regime.

Kalonzo argues that such an accommodative approach to other like-minded outfits would be crucial in attracting multiple partners, unlike the approach to mergers being adopted by Kenya Kwanza.

“I know others (political leaders) are talking to different parties with a view of uniting. While Ruto is consolidating and pushing for all to wind up and join UDA, our approach should be the other way around. We should open the space so that as many parties as are willing can join this wonderful winning team. There should be no room for division. Let’s not allow ourselves to be divided,” Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo further highlighted the recent political truce between Martha Karua and Rigathi Gachagua as a pointer that should guide others seeking collaboration.

“We are going to do things differently within what remains in the Azimio. We recognized that DAP and NARC Kenya pulled out. We respect their decisions. That doesn’t mean we are not going to get together again. It could be a strategy. It could be a strategy. We have seen Martha Karua and Gachagua up there in the mountain. We must continue to do these things differently,” he added.

2027 alliances

Kalonzo sentiments come as political parties mull over possible alliances and endorsements ahead of the 2027 elections.

Rigathi Gachagua and Martha Karua made a political truce on Saturday, January 25, 2025 during the former DP visit to her Kimunye home in Kirinyanga county.

After the meeting, the Narc Kenya leaders announced she will be launching the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) in February 2025, a rebranded outfit she has been working on since May 2024.

Endorsements

She further signaled a push to engage new alliances ahead of the 2027 General Election as she hinted at a possibility of her party teaming up with Gachagua’s outfit.

On the endorsement front, Jubilee party threw its weight behind former Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang’i as its official flagbearer in the 2027 elections.

The party made the announcement through its Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni on Saturday, January, 25, 2025 following a leadership meeting.
