Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has warned that the government will pursue a section of politicians using hired gangs and violence to destabilise the country.

He stated that the security agencies will deal firmly with those behind politically instigated unrest.

In a statement on his Facebook page on Sunday, June 28, 2026, Murkomen said the government would not relent in protecting the country’s security.

“Just as we have curbed terrorism, banditry, organised crime and other security threats, we shall relentlessly pursue those who seek to destabilise our nation through goons and violence,” he said.

Murkomen: Stop exploiting youths

The Interior CS urged political leaders to stop exploiting young people to perpetrate violence and instead focus on addressing issues affecting them.

“I call upon all leaders to shun divisive politics and to stop exploiting our youth to perpetrate violence for political gain. Instead, they should embrace issue-based solutions that positively impact young people and contribute meaningfully to national development,” Murkomen said.

Goons at the churches spark debate

The recent incident at All Saints’ Cathedral has triggered strong reactions from political and religious leaders over the rise of goonism as the country moves towards the 2027 general elections.

Former National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi condemned the attacks, saying they raised concerns about growing intimidation targeting churches in Kenya.

Speaking during a church service in Bungoma County, Muturi said places of worship must remain protected from political or criminal interference.

“No one should ever imagine that the Church can be subdued through intimidation or the use of force,” Muturi said.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also commented on related incidents during the church service in Bungoma.

Their remarks have added to the ongoing political debate around accountability and security operations during public gatherings.

Warning against violence

Murkomen, during his speech on Saturday, June 27, 2026, also warned that security agencies were closely monitoring individuals recruiting criminal gangs to advance political agendas, saying the government would not hesitate to act against those found culpable.

“Any person who is involved in recruiting gangs and criminals, we will deal with them decisively and in accordance with the law,” he warned
