‘I’m glad the president allowed me a few days off’ – DP Kindiki says amid fallout reports
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has dismissed claims of a fallout between him and President William Ruto.
Speaking during the wedding ceremony of Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano’s son and his bride, Wambui, on Saturday, January 4, 2025, Kindiki downplayed the speculations, saying he had simply taken a short break.
He urged Kenyans to disregard rumours of discord, emphasizing his commitment to supporting President Ruto and the government’s development agenda.
The Deputy President expressed gratitude to President Ruto for allowing him some time off to recharge.
“I’m left with a few hours. My holiday is coming to an end, therefore I need to enjoy what is left of it. Ignore everything else completely. Don’t fall into the trap of triviality and small issues,” Kindiki stated.
Adding;
“We have a business. I’m glad that the president allowed me a few days off. I feel so energized and I believe this is the year that we will rally and support the president and take Kenya to the next level.”
This marked Kindiki’s first public appearance of the year, where he was seen wearing sunglasses.
His conspicuous absence from several recent functions, including key events attended by President Ruto, had fueled speculation about a strained relationship.
Development
In his address, the Second in Command also emphasized the need to enhance infrastructural facilities such as roads, electricity, and internet connectivity to support national development.
“As we aspire to build strong families and a better nation, we must pursue both the hardware and the software that underpin strong societies. Improvement of our economic infrastructure like roads, electricity and internet connectivity; bettering our social amenities like schools and health facilities as well as the pursuit of better incomes form the hardware of nation-building,” Kindiki remarked.
He further noted that achieving holistic prosperity requires complementing these developments with essential societal values.
“For our all-round prosperity, we require to supplement this crucial national hardware with the software of positive social values, love for one another and our country, stronger families and inter-generational solidarity.”
