IEBC announces voter registration exercise in Nairobi CBD on Sunday, April 12

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will on Sunday, April 12, 2026, carry out a voter registration exercise in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) as part of efforts to boost voter turnout ahead of upcoming elections.

In a public notice on Saturday, April 11, 2026, the commission urged eligible Kenyans, particularly those who are yet to register, to take advantage of the exercise and enlist as voters.

“Tomorrow, Sunday, 12th April 2026! IEBC will conduct Voter Registration within Nairobi CBD. Come register as a voter! IEBC wrote.

Registration designated points

The one-day registration drive will run from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with officials stationed at designated points within the CBD to facilitate the process.

IEBC reminded prospective voters to carry either a valid national identification card or a passport, which are mandatory requirements for registration.

“Carry your National ID or a Valid Passport. Time :8:00 am to 5:00 pm,” IEBC stated, as it intends to register hundreds of content creators and other young people who throng Nairobi Central Business District every Sunday.

The registration exercise at the CBD is part of ongoing nationwide efforts by the commission to expand the voter register and encourage civic participation, especially among young and first-time voters.

New voters registered

In its latest update on Friday, April 10, 2026, the Commission revealed that 531,185 new voters have been registered between April 3 and April 9, 2026, under the ongoing Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise.

This brings the total number of newly registered voters since the exercise began on March 30, 2026, to an impressive 875,501.

According to the IEBC, the nationwide registration drive is being conducted across all 1,450 County Assembly Wards, as well as in institutions of higher learning, Huduma Centres, constituency offices, and the Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers.

“In just seven days, we have witnessed a remarkable surge in numbers. This growth is not just a statistic; it is a testament to a nation that is awake, engaged, and ready to take charge of its destiny,” the commission said in a press statement.

“We wish to extend our sincere appreciation and congratulations to the hundreds of thousands of citizens who have stepped forward to claim their right to vote. To every Kenyan who stood in line this week: thank you for answering the call of your country.”
