IEBC enhances 30-day nationwide voter registration drive
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has implemented a 30-day Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise, which provides Kenyans with an opportunity to become voters more freely and conveniently in the country.
Taking it to their social media handles on Friday, April 10, 2026, the IEBC has confirmed that, unlike in the past, when residents of the various counties had to travel to their home counties to register at any polling station, the commission has initiated open registration kits whereby citizens can now be registered at any polling station without travelling to their home counties.
“You do not need to travel to your home county to register. The commission has deployed open kits, which allow a citizen to register as a voter for any polling station in Kenya from the registration centre near you. Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) will take place for 30 days up to Tuesday, 28th April 2026,” the IEBC noted in a statement.

The drill will continue until Tuesday, April 28, 2026, and is a subset of the larger movement of the commission to increase voter turnout and make the election process more inclusive. Decentralisation of services will help the IEBC reach more citizens, especially young people and first-time voters, as they might be in schools or cities different from their place of origin.
Expanded registration centres nationwide
To improve convenience, the IEBC has set up several registration points in the country. These are county assembly wards, which are run on a rotational basis; universities and colleges in different constituencies; Huduma Centre constituency offices; and the IEBC Customer Experience Centre, which is at the Anniversary Towers in Nairobi. The broad network will ensure that no deserving voter faces disenfranchisement due to logistical difficulties.

The Commission feels that the proximity of services to the people will go a long way in increasing the turnout, particularly among the youth group, which has traditionally registered low numbers of voters despite comprising a big percentage of the population.
Exclusion from participating.
The IEBC has maintained that it will not roll out the exercise in regions where electoral processes are currently underway. The by-elections will take place in Porro Ward, Endo Ward, Emurua Dikirr Constituency, and Ol Kalou Constituency. Furthermore, Malava Constituency and Mbeere North Constituency are not considered, as they have active election petitions.
