Govt urges Kenyans in Middle East to register as conflict escalates
The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs has stepped up coordination with Kenyan diplomatic missions in the Middle East following the escalation of conflict in the region, with officials focusing on measures to safeguard Kenyan nationals abroad.
Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs Ms Roseline Njogu, alongside Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Dr Singoei A. Korir, convened a hybrid meeting at the Ministry’s headquarters in Nairobi with Kenya’s ambassadors stationed across the Middle East. The meeting, attended by senior ministry officials, centred on coordinated responses and real-time information sharing to ensure the safety and welfare of Kenyans living and working in the affected countries.
PS Njogu reiterated the urgent need for all Kenyans in the Middle East to register with their nearest Kenyan Embassy or through the Diaspora registration platform shared in earlier advisories. She also urged citizens to use the government’s emergency hotlines should they require immediate assistance.
This engagement supports ongoing coordination between embassies, consulates, and the ministry headquarters to ensure timely responses if the security situation worsens.
The heightened diplomatic activity comes amid growing instability in parts of the Middle East following recent military escalations involving regional and international actors. The conflict has raised global concern over civilian safety, disrupted airspace in some areas, and heightened tensions across the Gulf and neighbouring states, where thousands of Kenyans reside and work.
Earlier, PS Njogu briefed the National Assembly’s Diaspora and Migrant Workers Committee on the welfare of Kenyans abroad and outlined government interventions aimed at protecting migrant workers and other nationals amid the evolving crisis.
The Ministry has assured Kenyans that it remains on high alert and will continue monitoring developments closely while working with its missions abroad to provide consular support and timely updates. Citizens in the region have been advised to remain vigilant, follow guidance from local authorities, and keep their contact information updated with Kenyan diplomatic missions.
