Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has announced that the ODM party has entrusted Senator Oburu Oginga with the responsibility of leading coalition talks, as part of efforts to strengthen unity and chart a collective political future.

In a statement posted on her official X account on Saturday, January 24, 2026, Wanga revealed that community leaders from across the four counties of the Lake Region gathered in Kisumu to honour the party’s legacy while affirming their commitment to its future direction.

“Today in Kisumu, the heartbeat of the Lake Region, we honoured our past and fortified our future,” Wanga stated.

Kilifi Declaration commitment

The Governor disclosed that the gathering saw leaders from various sectors reaffirm their support for Oburu Oginga as the political heir of ODM, reiterating their commitment to the Kilifi Declaration, which was ratified by the party’s National Executive Committee.

“As community leaders drawn from various sectors across the four counties, we reaffirmed our commitment to Senator Dr Oburu Oginga as our political leader, succeeding Baba Raila Odinga,” she said.

“We unanimously and unequivocally reiterated our steadfast commitment to the Kilifi Declaration, in line with ODM NEC’s ratification,” Wanga added.

Clear mandate

Wanga outlined the leaders’ mandate as focusing on unity, development, youth empowerment, and justice for the region.

“Our charge is clear: unity, development, youth empowerment, and justice,” the Governor stated.

She added that, as the bedrock of ODM, party leaders had now empowered Oburu to spearhead coalition talks aimed at building a stronger and more united political future for the party and the nation.

“As the bedrock of ODM, we have now empowered Dr Oburu to lead coalition talks for a stronger, united future,” Wanga declared.
