Most Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) supporters are rallying behind the Linda Mwananchi faction led by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, according to a new TIFA Research poll that shows the rival Linda Ground camp losing support.

The survey, released on Friday, July 24, 2026, found that support for the Sifuna-led faction increased from 73 per cent in May to 74 per cent in June among ODM supporters. In contrast, backing for the Linda Ground camp associated with acting party leader Oburu Odinga and his allies dropped from 24 per cent to 20 per cent over the same period.

“ODM supporters are consolidating behind the ‘Linda Mwananchi’ position, with support increasing while the alternative ‘Linda Ground’ position continues to lose ground,” TIFA stated in its findings.

The poll also showed a slight increase in respondents who said they had no opinion, rising from 3 per cent to 6 per cent.

Growing influence of Linda Mwananchi

The latest figures suggest that the Linda Mwananchi faction is strengthening its hold on ODM’s support base as internal debates over the party’s direction continue ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a previous TIFA survey released in May, 73 per cent of ODM supporters backed the Sifuna-led camp compared to 24 per cent for the Linda Ground faction, indicating that the divide within the party had already emerged months earlier.

ODM split

The rivalry between the two factions has intensified following disagreements over ODM’s cooperation with President William Ruto’s administration under the broad-based government arrangement.

Linda Mwananchi leaders have positioned themselves as defenders of the party’s opposition identity and the interests of ordinary citizens, while Linda Ground leaders have argued for a more pragmatic engagement with the government.

With the latest TIFA numbers showing a four-point increase in the gap between the two camps, the Sifuna-led faction appears to be consolidating support among ODM loyalists as the party prepares for the political battles leading up to 2027.
