Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has said the opposition’s planned Western Kenya tour represents a return to the birthplace of the Linda Mwananchi movement, linking the upcoming political mobilisation to a campaign that began in Kitale last year.

In a statement shared on Friday, July 24, 2026, Amisi recalled that the movement was launched at his Matisi home in Kitale on August 3, 2025, before spreading through the region with the “Lukhome Market Declaration” in Saboti Constituency.

“Linda mwananchi began in Kitale on 3rd August 2025 at my home in Matisi. Then Lukhome market declaration in Saboti constituency. Welcome back home, my comrades in the struggle. Kenya needs a renaissance!” Amisi posted on X.

Western tour

His remarks come ahead of the opposition’s highly anticipated Western Kenya tour, which is expected to bring together key leaders seeking to consolidate support in the region as the country’s political landscape continues to evolve.

By describing the visit as a “welcome back home,” Amisi suggested that the tour is not merely another political campaign but a return to the origins of a movement that has consistently championed the welfare of ordinary Kenyans.

The Linda Mwananchi campaign emerged in 2025 as a platform through which opposition leaders criticised the Kenya Kwanza administration over the rising cost of living, taxation, governance and what they termed shrinking democratic space.

The Western Kenya tour is expected to feature public rallies and engagements with residents as opposition leaders seek to strengthen grassroots support and outline their vision for the country.

Wantam movement

The remarks come amid ongoing consultations under the WANTAM initiative, which has brought together members of the United Opposition and the Linda Mwananchi movement to harmonise their political agenda and establish a common strategy ahead of the next general election.

The unity talks have intensified following a series of joint appearances by opposition leaders, who have pledged to set aside individual party interests in favour of a broader coalition.

The leaders have maintained that presenting a united front will be key to mobilising support across the country as political alignments continue to take shape ahead of the 2027 polls.
