Wantam Movement platform invites opposition presidential candidates for debate
The Wantam online movement platform has reaffirmed its independence as it announced plans to convene a meeting with opposition presidential and deputy presidential aspirants ahead of its planned digital flagbearer selection exercise.
In a statement seen by People Daily Digital, the committee has emphasised that it is a non-partisan citizens’ initiative and is not affiliated with or acting on behalf of any politician, political party, or political coalition.
“The WANTAM Movement Advisory Committee has reaffirmed its independence as it announced plans to convene a meeting with opposition presidential and deputy presidential aspirants ahead of its planned digital flagbearer selection exercise,” the Wantam Movement’s statement read in part.

According to the committee, the movement’s primary objective is to promote meaningful public participation by providing Kenyans with a platform to express their views on who should represent the opposition in the 2027 presidential election.
Stakeholders’ meeting scheduled
As part of its ongoing public consultations, the committee has formally invited all presidential and deputy presidential aspirants opposed to the Kenya Kwanza administration to attend a stakeholders’ meeting on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
The meeting will focus on the WANTAM digital election system and explore how citizen participation can strengthen democratic decision-making ahead of the 2027 general election.
The digital platform is expected to serve as the foundation for the movement’s planned online selection exercise.
Digital selection plan
It maintained that the exercise is intended to be transparent, inclusive, secure, and reflective of the will of Kenyans.
“The WANTAM Advisory Committee wishes to reaffirm that it is an independent, non-partisan citizens’ initiative and is not affiliated with or acting on behalf of any politician, political party or political coalition. Our sole objective is to facilitate meaningful public participation by giving Kenyans a platform to express their views on the leadership they wish to see represent the opposition in the 2027 Presidential Election,” the committee said.
Push for consensus
The announcement comes amid increasing efforts by opposition figures to build a united front ahead of the 2027 elections.

By bringing together presidential hopefuls for consultations before the digital selection process, the WANTAM Movement says it hopes to encourage dialogue and foster a citizen-driven approach to identifying a preferred opposition flagbearer.
The committee reiterated that it remains committed to engaging all stakeholders while safeguarding the credibility of the digital exercise, insisting that the process will prioritise transparency, inclusivity, security, and the voice of the Kenyan people.
