Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused the government of remaining silent over the killing of Reverend Julius Ndumia Ngari, saying the response from security agencies and senior state officials has raised concern among members of the PCEA church.

Gachagua spoke on Sunday, May 10, 2026, during a memorial service for the late cleric at PCEA Macedonia, Baraka Parish in Ongata Rongai.

The former DP said he had personally contacted the PCEA moderator to express concern that the church leadership had not spoken strongly enough about the murder.

“I told our moderator that many people feel this matter has not received sufficient attention from the church leadership. We must speak out because when you don’t speak, people become very bold,” Gachagua said.

He warned that silence over the killing could expose other church leaders to danger.

“They have killed our parish minister in Nakuru. The next day, they will go for the Secretary General of the General Assembly. They will come for the moderator of the General Assembly,” he added.

Gachagua also criticised the government for what he called double standards in handling attacks involving church leaders.

“It is unacceptable that the government is silent on this matter. Not a single word from the CS Interior. Not a single statement from the Inspector General of Police,” he said.

He defended the contribution of the PCEA church to the country, pointing to hospitals and schools established by the church in places such as Chogoria and Tumutumu.

The former deputy president further claimed that Christians in Nakuru were facing intimidation following the murder of the cleric.

“I have been told, and I do not want to speculate, that there is CCTV footage showing the people who killed Reverend Ndumia. Christians in Nakuru are being intimidated to keep quiet and wait,” he said.

Gachagua called on the police to allow the release of the CCTV footage before the burial of the cleric.

“We want the police in Nakuru to release the CCTV footage so that the family, Christians, and all of us can have an idea of who killed the man of God. We do not want a cover-up,” he stated.

His remarks came a day after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations announced the arrest of two suspects linked to the murder.

According to the DCI, Reverend Ndumia was killed during a raid at Tabuga Parish in Nakuru on May 3. Detectives said the attackers broke into the church office and the cleric’s residence before stealing cash, mobile phones, and other valuables.

“The suspects were found in possession of valuables confirmed to be among the items stolen from the late Reverend. They are currently in custody, undergoing interrogation,” the DCI said.

Investigators added that detectives were reviewing forensic evidence as they pursue more suspects linked to the attack.
