President William Ruto has urged young Kenyans to embrace resilience and ambition, reminding them that humble beginnings should never stand in the way of great dreams.

Speaking during the 89th Passing Out Parade of recruits at the NYS Paramilitary Academy in Gilgil, Nakuru County, on Thursday, August 28, 2025, Ruto shared his own journey as proof that determination can rewrite any story.

“The formula for success is simple, audacious calls powered by hard work, consistency and results. I was not born into privilege or wealth. I walked barefoot to school and sold chicken by the roadside. Had I declared then that I would one day be the President of Kenya, many would have dismissed it as folly. Yet here we stand today,” Ruto said.

The President challenged the recruits and Kenyans at large to pursue their ambitions without fear of judgment or doubt.

“Let no one despise your beginnings, let no one tell you that your dreams are too big,” he added.

Call to service and discipline

The Head of State used the event to emphasise discipline, commitment, and service to the nation as the pillars of success, both in uniform and beyond. He lauded the recruits for their resilience throughout the rigorous training, urging them to hold their service with pride and integrity.

“Today, you join a long line of men and women who have dedicated themselves to protecting our nation. This journey is not just about a job; it is about honour, discipline and loyalty to Kenya,” Ruto said.

The President also noted that the government remains committed to equipping the security forces with modern tools and training opportunities to match the evolving nature of threats facing the country.

Message of hope for the youth

Ruto’s message went beyond the barracks, striking a chord with millions of young Kenyans navigating challenges of unemployment, limited opportunities, and economic hardship. His call to dream big, despite humble origins, was a deliberate reminder of his political philosophy of “hustler nation,” rooted in the belief that every Kenyan deserves a fair shot at success.

“Every young Kenyan must understand that where you begin does not define where you end. Your story is yours to write, and with persistence, no ceiling is too high,” Ruto said.

As the recruits celebrated their milestone, Ruto’s words carried a broader national message that Kenya’s future rests on resilience, audacity, and belief that dreams are indeed bigger than beginnings.
