Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.

Aisha Jumwa’s thanksgiving ceremony

The newly-appointed Kenya Roads Board chairperson Aisha Jumwa will on, Sunday, February 2, 2025, host a thanksgiving ceremony at Msabaha Grounds in Malindi constituency, Kilifi County.

The event that is expected to kick off at 10:00 am will be presided over by Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho. A host of leaders from the national government are also expected to grace the event.

Jumwa stepped into her new role as the chairperson of the Kenya Roads Board (KRB) on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

In a ceremony graced by Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir, Jumwa was inaugurated as the new chair after her recent appointment by President William Ruto garnered significant backlash from stakeholders within the engineering sector.

Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) on Monday, January 27, rejected Jumwa’s appointment as chair of KRB stating that her appointment failed to meet the stipulated regulations as outlined in the Kenya Roads Board Act no.7 in regard to the appointment process.

“We (IEK) call for immediate revocation of the appointment of Hon. Aisha Jumwa Katana as KRB Chair and the appointment of a suitably qualified Chair in compliance with the law,” IEK averred.

“The Act mandates that the non-executive chairperson be appointed from among the members nominated by the organisations listed in the First Schedule. However, Hon. Aisha Jumwa Katana does not represent any of these organisations, raising questions about the adherence to statutory provisions in her appointment.”

Politicians in churches

Political leaders from both the government and the opposition are expected to flock different churches across the country to worship.

As per the norm, the politicians are expected to take to the church podium to make various remarks. Whilst the pro-government political leaders are expected to put pressure on Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi to resign over his anti-abduction remarks, those from the opposition are expected to mount more pressure on President William Ruto to put an end to abductions and extrajudicial killings.

FKF Premier League

Kenya Police and Tusker will both be in action today, Sunday, February 2, 2025, for the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League.

Police, buoyed by their solid defensive record—conceding just nine goals this season—will face Sofapaka at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos. Sofapaka, who sit eighth with 24 points, will be looking to pull off an upset.

Meanwhile, Tusker take on fourth-placed KCB in what promises to be a fiery encounter. KCB, with 27 points, could leapfrog Gor Mahia with a win, while Tusker will be keen to maintain their position at the top.

Nairobi City Stars and AFC Leopards will face off in another tense fixture.

Shabana, currently fifth, host Kariobangi Sharks in Kisii, while Murang’a SEAL welcome Bandari.
