Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.
EPRA to announce fuel prices
Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) will announce new fuel prices on Friday, February 14, 2025.
The new prices will cover February until March 14, 2025, when EPRA will announce new prices.
In January’s review, the regulatory body announced a slight increase in prices for Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene by Ksh0.29, Ksh2, and Ksh3 per litre respectively.
A litre of Super Petrol in Nairobi currently retails at Ksh176.58, Diesel at Ksh167.06 and Kerosene at Ksh151.39.

In Mombasa, Super Petrol costs Ksh173.34, Diesel Ksh163.82, and Kerosene Ksh148.15.
In Kisumu, the costs for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene are Ksh176.62, Ksh167.44, and Ksh151.82 respectively.
Recently, EPRA Director General Daniel Kiptoo signalled plans to hike the prices of the commodity. Kiptoo attributed it to a surge in global crude oil prices recorded in January 2025.
“We did have a bit of a spike in international prices sometime in early January and it’s because of certain geopolitical factors, there were sanctions that were put on Russian products by the outgoing U.S. administration, but those sanctions have not been lifted,” stated Kiptoo.
Kenyan delegation to depart to Ethiopia
A delegation from Kenya is expected to leave the country and head to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to support former Prime Minister Raila Odinga ahead of the African Union Commission (AUC) elections on Saturday, February 15, 2025.
The leaders drawn across the political divide will fly to the East African country following President William Ruto who flew out on Thursday, February 13, 2025.
Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Masika Wetang’ula confirmed receiving notification from 40 MPs who expressed interest in joining the head of state in supporting Raila.

He however announced the parliament would sponsor four ahead of the trip.
“As the National Assembly, and following a request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs we have a delegation of four members travelling to Addis Ababa in solidarity with the Kenya candidate. The members are led by the chairperson of the departmental committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relation, Honourable Nelson Koech,” Wetangula read.
The other three are Haiza Mizighi, the chairperson of the Diaspora Affairs Committee, Abdullahi Bashir Sheikh, the vice chair of the Defence Committee and Millie Odhiambo, Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo who serves as the Minority Whip in the National Assembly.
Valentine’s Day celebrations
Valentine’s Day is Friday, February 14, 2025, and lovers are expected to express their affection with greetings and gifts.
In addition to lovers, different people are also expected to use the day to show affection and how much they treasure others.
In Kenya, celebrities and influential people are expected to post statements on social media platforms celebrating their loved ones. Other artists are expected to put up shows to entertain their fans.

On various streets, vendors are expected to put up displays of red flowers and gift cards luring passersby to buy for their loved ones. Generally, the streets are expected to be congested due to the beehive of activities during this day.
Valentine’s Day originated from the Roman festival of Lupercalia, held in mid-February. The festival, which celebrated the coming of spring, included fertility rites and the pairing of women with men by lottery.
At the end of the 5th century, Pope Gelasius I forbade the celebration of Lupercalia which is sometimes attributed to replacing it with St. Valentine’s Day.
Valentine’s Day did not come to be celebrated as a day of romance until about the 14th century.
