Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary (CS) Rebecca Miano has promised to improve her ministry, as she officially assumed office.

While announcing that her predecessor Alfred Mutua had officially handed over the ministry on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, Miano said she is looking forward to moving the country’s tourism a few notches higher.

Miano on Magical Kenya

Miano pointed out that she was delighted to oversee the retelling of the country’s story, which can be through the eyes of Magical Kenya admirers.

“I officially assumed office as CS after my predecessor Alfred Mutua handed over me. I look forward to moving the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife a few notches higher. So delighted to oversee the retelling of our story; a story of who we are and can be through the eyes of Kenya Tourism Board admirers. It’s now!” Miano stated.

Miano’s plan

During her vetting, Miano told Speaker Moses Wetang’ula-led committee about her plans on turning around the tourism industry in the country.

She revealed her plans to revamp the Airbnb industry in Kenya, stating how she will ramp up efforts to stabilise the industry.

According to Miano, the Airbnb industry in the country has been marred by insecurity and untidiness.

She pointed out that the industry has been lagging and, thus failed to be at par with other successful businesses worldwide due to the rampant cases of insecurity.

Miano assured the committee that under her helm, the space which she believes is a classic example of an industry overtaken by its growth, will match world standards and record remarkable changes.

“My view is that the case of Airbnbs is a classic example where an industry is overtaken by the growth of the industry and I will not hesitate to say, because we have research institutions, research organisations dealing with tourism, they must be on top of the game with what’s happening; the contemporary changes so that as a country we keep up, we foresee, we prepare ourselves,” Miano said.

Induction of CSs

The new Cabinet Secretaries were inducted on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, with Miano pointing out that they had covered many topics including shared commitment, concert of action, common understanding and nimble execution of the government agenda.
