The Maendeleo Chap Chap Party has confirmed that it will not dissolve or merge into the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), claiming that it will maintain its identity as an independent political party within the Kenya Kwanza Coalition ahead of the 2027 General Election.

According to a statement by the party leader Alfred Mutua on May 14, 2026, the decision was made during a meeting of the party’s National Governing Council, which reviewed ongoing political realignments within the ruling coalition, where several affiliate parties have recently moved to fold into the UDA.

The party emphasised that it had made a deliberate and democratic decision to remain intact, citing the constitutional right to political association under Article 38 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.

“While the party is aware that some political parties within the Kenya Kwanza Coalition have chosen to dissolve and merge into the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Maendeleo Chap Chap has made a deliberate and democratic decision to remain a fully independent political party within the Coalition,” Mutua stated.

“The Party believes in the spirit and letter of Article 38 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, which guarantees every Kenyan the freedom to form, belong to and participate in political parties and democratic processes.”

Support to Ruto’s re-election bid

The Party leadership also stated that it fully supports the development agenda, vision and leadership of President William Ruto and it shall support his re-election for a deserved second term in office.

Alfred Mutua added that it shall continue to grow and strengthen its structures across the country by giving an opportunity to Kenyans who believe in democratic, progressive and development-oriented leadership to join.

The party further announced that it will field candidates in all elective positions in the 2027 elections, including governors, senators, members of Parliament, women representatives, and members of county assemblies.

“In preparation for the 2027 General Election, the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party will field candidates for all elective positions across the country, including governors, senators, members of parliament, women representatives, and members of county assemblies,” Mutua said.

It has also invited aspiring leaders to begin preparations to vie for its ticket, positioning itself as a platform for what it described as democratic and development-focused leadership.
