Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has weighed in on the scheduled talks between the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition and the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

In a statement shared via his official X account, formerly known as Twitter, Ngunyi claimed that the talks wouldn’t progress further. He also claimed that the talks are likely to hit a dead end.

He also wondered what former Nigeria president Olusegun Obasanjo was going to mediate.

“I do not get it. What is Obasanjo coming to Kenya to mediate? Political egos between dynasties and the hustler nation? This is a total waste of our national imagination. These talks will collapse. No grassroots basis at all,” he wrote.

Earlier, Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition had announced that it had reached an agreement with the Kenya Kwanza coalition to hold talks to resolve the issues facing the country.

In a press release shared, Azimio acknowledged that they were going to form a 10-member committee. Five members from Azimio and the other five from the Kenya Kwanza faction.

“We, the leadership of Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition party, having consulted with the leadership of Kenya Kwanza under the facilitation of K.E Olusegun Obasanjo on the state of our nation, desirious of a democratic and peaceful resolution of issues that beset our nation,” the statement read in part.

The Raila-led coalition also indicated that four out of the ten members fronted by both coalitions will be non-parliamentarians.

“We have therefore agreed with Kenya Kwanza to establish a committee of ten, composed of five members each from Azimio la Umoja and Kenya Kwanza,” the statement added.
