MP Caleb Amisi lists top state officers aged over 60, urges Ruto to retire them

Saboti Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has urged President William Ruto to retire top government officials who are aged 60 years and above.
Taking to his official X account on Saturday, July 6, 2024, Amisi listed some of the top state officers he believes should retire immediately.
Top state officers
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker listed Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u and Attorney General Justin Muturi as some of the state officers that President Ruto should retire.
Amisi in his social media statement said that Mudavadi is aged 63 years while Speaker Wetang’ula is aged 67, adding that they should not report to their offices on Monday, July 8, 2024.
“Dear William Ruto, just in case you misplaced their IDs, Musalia Mudavadi is 63 years old, his bure kabisa comrade, Moses Wetangula is 67 years. They should not report to work on Monday,” Amisi’s statement reads in part.
Amisi on Cabinet Secretaries
Amisi further listed the Cabinet Secretaries he believes are also past the official retirement age of public servants.
Among the Cabinet Secretaries Amisi believes should retire are CS Njuguna Ndung’u, his Education counterpart Ezekiel Machogu, Energy CS Davis Chirchir and Lands CS Alice Wahome.
After they retire, Amisi says President Ruto should also ensure that their Principal Secretaries, Director Generals and Chief Executive Officers of various government departments who fall within the same age range should follow.
He argues that having experience in public service should no longer be used as an added advantage, but an added public money.
“And the following CSs, Njuguna Ndugu 64yrs, Alice Wahome 65 yrs, Justin Muturi 68yrs, Ezekiel Machogu 68yrs, Davis Chirchir 63yrs. I guess you have already told them…….PSs , DGs , MDs ,CEOs etc must follow. Experience in public service is no longer an added advantage but an added experience of public money. We are cleaning Kenya. Kenya needs a renaissance!” Amisi stated.

Amisi’s statement comes a day after President Ruto directed public servants who have attained the retirement age of 60 to proceed to retirement.
Ruto’s call
Ruto, who was announcing measures the government was taking to cut costs, said there will be no extension of tenures of public servants who are 60 and above, whatsoever.
Addressing the nation from State House, Nairobi, on Friday, July 5, 2024, Ruto noted that the withdrawal of the Finance Bill, 2024 has resulted in reduction of revenue targets by Ksh346 billion.
“Henceforth, public servants who attain the retirement age of 60 shall be required to immediately proceed on retirement, with no extensions to their tenure of service whatsoever,” he announced.
This statement comes months after Salaries and Remunerations Committee (SRC) chairperson Lyn Mengich expressed that the mandatory retirement age in Kenya should remain at 60.
Mengich argued that lowering the retirement age would force the nation to incur a higher pensionable liability as more Kenyans would become eligible for pensions.
