Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has cautioned President William Ruto against failing to meet the Luo community’s expectations.

In a statement published on Thursday, August 29, 2024, Amisi stated that people from the Nyanza region are currently embracing Ruto because of his commitment and dedication to ensuring Raila Odinga clinches the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship position.

He further advised the Head of State to complete his mission adding that failure to do so would cause great damage to his future engagement with the Luo community.

“Dear #ruto, the Nyanza people are embracing you now because you have shown a lot of commitment towards helping the #Raila4AUC chairperson position,” Amisi said.

“The ball is centrally positioned in your court now. You have to complete this mission. Failure will be disastrous to your future engagement with the community.”

The four-day tour will see Ruto launch development projects in Migori, Homa Bay, Siaya and Kisumu counties.

Yesterday, he kicked off his tour in Migori County where he launched the Kegonga Cluster Water Project and inspected the Lower Kuja Irrigation Project.

He will close his project tour in Migori with a launch of the Ngere-Mapera Road on Wednesday.

Raila’s AUC bid

Ruto, on August 27, 2024, while endorsing Raila’s AUC candidacy stated that the former Prime Minister is a visionary leader who possesses the professional capacity and experience adding that he is the ideal candidate to lead the African Union Commission.

“Kenya endorses Raila Odinga’s candidacy unreservedly, and we commit wholeheartedly to supporting his candidature, his vision and his leadership. Raila Odinga is a celebrated statesman whose longevity in leadership has been sustained by an unrelenting devotion to democratic change as the foundation of sustainable freedom and prosperity,” Ruto said.

“He possesses the professional capacity and experience, a proven track record of transformative leadership and wide experience of accomplishment at the national and regional levels I know that Odinga not only possesses the requisite credentials, but he is also the ideal candidate to lead the African Union Commission,” he said.

“Odinga enjoys a sterling reputation as a zealous Pan-African who has consistently demonstrated a strong faith in Africa’s possibilities and exemplary commitment to the cause of laying a robust foundation for Africa’s transformation in our time.”

The ODM party leader will need at least 32 votes to clinch the AUC chairmanship with 48 African Presidents expected to cast their votes.
