The guidelines and agreement that will formally anchor One Kenya Alliance are in top gear, after its principals received an update report from the technical committee.

The quartet: Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi, Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka, Gideon Moi (Kanu) and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the formulation of the instruments that will bind them ahead of the August 2022 polls.

“We have received an update report from a technical committee on the progress made in formalising the Alliance. Kenyans are waiting anxiously for the final report,” said the quartet in a joint statement.

Last month, the foursome  agreed to widen the coalition with like-minded political players ahead of the 2022 high stake General Election. 

The leaders, who have remained committal that their alliance is aimed at uniting Kenyans, have in recent days been on the receiving end with some of their critics accusing them of being propped by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Pundits argued that the four are being fronted to tame Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Although Raila has not indicated that he will make a fifth stab at the Presidency, One Kenya Alliance has been seeking his endorsement to take on Ruto in the race to succeed Uhuru.

Raila has previous worked with Mudavadi, Musyoka and Wetangula in the now inactive  National Super Alliance (Nasa).

One Kenya Alliance deliberately left out Raila out of the equation in what is largely attributed to his ‘insincerity’ to honour coalition agreements.

But Jubilee Party Vice Chair David Murathe has downplayed the issue saying that a more wider alliance will be formed after the passage of the Building Bridges Initioative BI to stop Ruto from succeeding President Kenyatta.

However, the four principals in the new formation had agreed to go out and bring in more political figures to create a strong political outfit.

“This is an emerging conversation, and if Raila feels that this is a conversation he buys into, we have no problem working with him. What I have always told Kenyans is, can we grow out of a personality cult and start talking about issues,” said Mudavadi.

Raila’s allies have dismissed the One Kenya Alliance as “a tribal alliance”.
