Wamunyinyi reunites with Wetang’ula camp after failed Ford Kenya coup
Former Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi has met with his former colleagues in the Ford Kenya Party, after a failed coup against National Assembly Speaker and party leader Moses Wetang’ula.
The former MP met with the members in Masese, Bungoma County, on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, despite the animosity that had existed between the two factions, one led by Wafula Wamunyinyi alongside former Tongaren MP and Ford Kenya Secretary-General Eseli Simiyu, and former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati.
The leaders laughed together and shook hands as a sign that there was nothing personal among them.
Among the Ford Kenya leaders present was Bungoma Senator Wafula Wakoli, a close ally of Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
Back in 2020, Wamunyinyi, Eseli, and Wangamati led a coup against Wetang’ula, seeking to take over the party leadership from him. The matter ended up in court, where Wetang’ula eventually won the case against the faction.

After losing the court battle, the trio joined hands with Eugene Wamalwa to form the DAP-K party, which they used as their political vehicle to seek re-election in 2022, but they were all swept away by the Ford Kenya wave.
After losing his Kanduyi seat, Wamunyinyi opted to vie for the Bungoma senatorial seat in the by-election meant to replace Wetang’ula, who had resigned to assume the Speaker’s position. However, he came in a distant third after being defeated by Wafula Wakoli.
Having maintained a low profile and occasionally resurfacing during DAP-K engagements, Wamunyinyi recently lamented that what he misses most after losing his MP seat is the medical insurance cover he enjoyed while serving as a lawmaker.
Wetangula kalasinga woes
This also comes amid heated political wrangles between Wetang’ula and Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga, which have taken a new direction, with Speaker Wetang’ula openly predicting doom for Majimbo’s re-election in 2027.

Majimbo, on his part, has openly attacked the Speaker, saying he will not be intimidated and declaring that he is in Kabuchai to stay. The MP went ahead to front his own candidate for the Kabuchai-Chwele Ward MCA seat to compete against Wetang’ula’s Ford Kenya candidate.
The MP has also threatened to move a motion to impeach the Speaker.
