Wambugu tells Gachagua to back Kindiki after his demands for lawyer MPs

Former Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Wambugu Ngunjiri has stated that if former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua truly wants the majority of MPs from Mt Kenya in 2027 to be lawyers, he should start by allowing his successor, Kithure Kindiki, to be the kingpin of the mountain.

According to a statement shared by Wambugu on his socials on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, he said that if Gachagua truly means and believes in the competence brought forth by MPs who are lawyers or who have a legal background, then he should first allow and support Kindiki to be the kingpin of Mt Kenya, since he is not only a lawyer but also a professor of law.

Wambugu argued that Gachagua is being hypocritical in his statements urging Mt Kenya professionals to produce lawyers as MPs in the next general election, while at the same time failing to support lawyers already in the political scene, such as Deputy President Kindiki, who is an advocate by profession.

“If Gachagua genuinely wants us to vote for lawyers as MPs for Mt Kenya, then he should fully support Deputy President Kindiki, who is a professor of law, to be the next Mt Kenya political kingpin,” Wambugu said.

Praising ODM

This comes days after Gachagua contrasted MPs produced from Luo Nyanza with those from Mt Kenya, saying that Nyanza MPs outsmart those from Mt Kenya. He attributed the growth of ODM to it having lawyers as a larger portion of it.

“But most importantly, his political party, or the legislators, are top-notch lawyers. These are the people who have protected Raila Odinga for 20 years. If you look at Raila’s team: James Orengo, the late Otieno Kajwang, Otiende Amollo, Caroli Omondi, Peter Kaluma, Edwin Sifuna, Stewart Madzayo, Catherine Muma, Milly Odhiambo the ‘bad gal’, Beatrice Oyoma, Tom Ojienda, Okong’o Omogeni, Mohammed Faki, Ochieng’, and Babu Owino. Great minds,” Gachagua stated.

He went on to plead with Mt Kenya professionals to help solve this issue, arguing that the region has been producing incompetent MPs. He stated that out of the 140 MPs that his party, Democracy for Citizens Party, aims to produce, he wants at least 40 of them to be lawyers.
