Business activities were today, Monday 14, paralyzed for hours in Thika town, Kiambu County after irked residents took to the streets to protest against Deputy President William Ruto and his allies in Kenya Kwanza Alliance for allegedly hurling insults on President Uhuru Kenyatta during a rally they held in Thika on Sunday.

In their tens, the locals walked around Thika town chanting anti-Ruto songs expressing their displeasure with the DP’s brigade.

They took an issue with the leader for allegedly uttering unprintable words directed at the President for supporting ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential ambition in the coming elections.

They said that President Kenyatta, Mt Kenya region’s political kingpin, deserves to be respected upholding that even in the wake of unusual political waves, the region will largely follow his political direction to guard its interests.

Led by Mary Nyambura, the locals said the Head of State had a right to join any alliance and urged leaders to respect his decision.

“Our spokesperson from this region has a right to join any political vehicle as that is his democratic right. It is very wrong for leaders to stand in public and abuse a president elected by all Kenyans,” Nyambura said.

Peter Mbugua, another local, also accused Ruto of being dishonest with his remarks.

“As our President did, Ruto should adopt agenda-based campaigns instead of hiring our leaders to incite the people through non-existent claims. We are behind our president and whichever direction he shows us, we will follow without questioning,” Joseph Kimani, another resident added.

The displeased residents further apologized to the Head of State on behalf of the Thika and Mt Kenya regions for the utterances made by leaders from the regions and assured him of their support.
