Karungo Thang’wa: Ol kalou will show Ruto what to expect in 2027
Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa has told President William Ruto that the upcoming Ol Kalou by-election will be a precursor to what he should expect in the 2027 general election.
Speaking while campaigning for DCP candidate Samuel Kamau Waweru in the Ol Kalou by-election on Monday, June 29, 2026, the outspoken senator vowed that the Democracy for Citizens (DCP) party would teach the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) a political lesson in the mini-poll.
“Ol Kalou will show you what to expect in 2027,” Karungo stated.

His remarks come just weeks before the by-election, which is slated for July 16, 2026, where the DCP candidate will lock horns with the UDA candidate, Samuel Muchina.
Methu assures Gachagua
While speaking during the DCP leaders’ trip to the United Kingdom on Sunday, May 17, 2026, the outspoken Nyandarua senator vowed that the Ol Kalou seat is a must-win for the party.
Methu also added that a victory in Ol Kalou would mark the beginning of President William Ruto’s political journey back to Sugoi, as the opposition seeks to realise its “Wantam” ambition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, on his part, has hinted at the possibility of stripping Nyandarua Senator John Methu of his recently acquired Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) secretary-general position should he fail to deliver victory in the upcoming Ol Kalou mini-poll.
Malala’s message to Methu

Speaking during an interview with a local television station on Thursday, June 4, 2026, the outspoken DCP deputy party leader stated that Methu, who is currently holding the secretary-general position in an acting capacity, must prove his ability by delivering the party’s first major assignment.
According to Malala, if Methu fails to ensure that DCP wins the Ol Kalou by-election, the party could review his status and may not proceed with confirming him as the substantive secretary-general.
“We have given Methu a very big assignment — to deliver the Ol Kalou by-election. That is a major test for him. If he delivers, we will have every confidence in confirming him as the secretary-general,” he said.
