Sudi mocks Gachagua over one-term president remarks

Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has dismissed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s jibe suggesting that President William Ruto will only serve for one term, calling them bitter and irrelevant.
In a video posted on his official X account on April 20, 2025, Sudi downplayed Gachagua’s assertions, stating that Ruto’s term count was not a concern so long as Gachagua remained out of active politics.
“I want to tell my brother Gachagua, it’s unfortunate I hear you saying that President William Ruto will only serve one term. That’s fine—as long as you went home before us, we have no problem,” Sudi stated.
The outspoken legislator, known for his close ties to Ruto, reiterated that the Kenya Kwanza government is focused on delivering its promises and is not distracted by political speculation or criticism from former insiders.
He urged Gachagua to focus on his own political future rather than speculate about Ruto’s.
“What matters is that you went home before us. So don’t bother yourself with talk of one-term or full-term. We know what we’re doing, and we will organise ourselves,” Sudi added.

The Kapseret MP also used the opportunity to criticise Gachagua’s performance during his tenure as Deputy President, accusing him of failing to engage effectively with citizens and elected leaders.
“You failed to organise yourself, to stay close to the people, and to work with members to lead the country. Now that you’re at home, just stay there and stop stressing about others,” he said.
Gachagua’s criticism of Ruto
Gachagua, who was impeached in October 2024, has emerged as one of Ruto’s fiercest critics, positioning himself in opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking during the launch of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) headquarters on January 27, 2025, Gachagua vowed to rally Kenyans and political partners to ensure Ruto becomes a one-term president, citing poor governance and rising authoritarianism under the current administration.
“I want to give my commitment to the almighty and our supporters…we shall make whatever sacrifices necessary to make sure William Ruto is a one-term president,” Gachagua declared.
In a more recent statement on Sunday, April 13, 2025, the former DP doubled down on his rhetoric while addressing a crowd in Ngong.
“One Term! Round One! One Way! Thank you, Ngong Town patriots, for your warm welcome! With great determination and courage, we shall redeem our nation from kakistocracy,” he said.
