Nyandarua Senator John Methu has come out to mock the presence of school buses during President William Ruto’s rally in Busia County on Sunday, July 26, 2026, a phenomenon that, in many political circles, is often interpreted as supporters being ferried to attend political events.

In a statement shared on his social media pages on Monday, July 27, 2026, the outspoken Nyandarua senator questioned President William Ruto’s frequent claim that he “did not start politics yesterday,” a statement the Head of State often uses to portray his political experience.

According to Methu, the presence of school buses at the Busia rally contradicts that assertion, arguing that if the President is indeed the seasoned politician he claims to be, there should be no need to ferry supporters to his rallies. He maintained that an experienced politician should naturally attract organic crowds.

Methu spells doom to Ruto

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Secretary-General went on to spell doom for the President, saying the incident was a clear indication that the political ground had become increasingly hostile for William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election. According to Methu, the President will have no escape route and risks being overwhelmingly voted out.

“Sijaanza siasa and other stories of the giants. Akiwa juu ya gari. Akiwa ameleta watu Sunday na basi za shule. Akianza siasa atashuka juu ya gari apande wheelbarrow. Miti imeteleza.”

Methu also took a swipe at the political organisation of the United Opposition, noting that all its principals have returned to their respective support bases and strongholds to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 elections. According to him, this strategy leaves President Ruto with little political breathing space as the election draws closer.

“Unaona venye Riggy G amekamata mlima, Sifuna akatetemesha Western. Sasa imagine next Sunday Kalonzo arushe makombora akiwa Ukambani, na Matiang’i akaze Kisii. Jicho Pevu agurumishe Pwani. There will be no escape route for Baba Sharleen.”

Ruto’s Busia event

His remarks came a day after school buses were spotted during President William Ruto’s visit to Amagoro in Busia County for a public event. Several school buses could be seen parked in the background, with many interpreting their presence as evidence that supporters had been ferried to the rally.

The incident also came just days after an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) event in Kisumu, presided over by ODM Deputy Party Leader Oburu Odinga, where dozens of buses were also spotted at the venue.

The Busia rally has since been contrasted with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi rally, which was held at the same grounds and drew massive crowds without visible school buses or any apparent signs of organised transportation for supporters.
