Senatorial aspirant barred from selling UDA at ODM function in Trans-Nzoia
A political showdown was witnessed at Mitume area in Trans-Nzoia County when a move by a senatorial aspirant eyeing the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket tried to steal the show in a meeting attended by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislators was thwarted.
Trouble started when Allan Chesang defied a directive by Saboti MP Caleb Amisi who told him to address the gathering but keep off UDA agenda during a funds drive for Tuwan Welfare group.
However, when he rose to speak Chesang began chanting the UDA party and urging the gathering to respond with the Kazi ni Kazi slogan to the surprise of ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
Amisi grabbed the microphone from the aspirant telling him: “You must respect us since this forum was exclusively for ODM legislators. Plan your own meeting to sell the UDA.”
When Sifuna was given the chance to address the forum, he too reprimanded Chesang advising him to join the ODM party if he wants to win the senatorial seat in 2022.
“We invite you to join us in ODM in order to avoid such embarrassment in future,” Sifuna said.
Uriri MP Mark Nyamita and Babu Owino also warned residents against falling for what they called political rhetoric by Deputy President William Ruto.
