Ruto meets UDA Baringo senatorial candidate ahead of by-elections
President William Ruto, the leader of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, met with Vincent Cheburet Chemitei, the party’s nominee for the Baringo Senatorial seat by-election, at State House, Nairobi.
In a statement from the party X account posted on Thursday, October 9, 2025, Ruto congratulated Chemitei for emerging victorious in the UDA nominations, which saw him beat eight other aspirants.
The meeting, described as cordial and forward-looking, focused on preparing the party’s candidate for the upcoming November 27 by-elections.

Elsewhere, tensions are rising in Baringo as KANU and UDA supporters clash over the Senate race.
“Best wishes to our UDA parliamentary candidates Kiprono Chemitei (Baringo), David Ndakwa (Malava), Muriuki Muthende (Mbeere North), and Ahmed Maalim Hassan (Banisa) in the upcoming by-elections,” President Ruto said, wishing all the UDA candidates well in the upcoming by-elections. “Wishing them well as they present their nomination papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission,” Ruto stated.
Cheburet, who now carries the UDA ticket for the Baringo Senatorial race, is expected to submit his nomination documents to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices in Kabarnet later today. His nomination marks the official start of his campaign as the party seeks to maintain its strong presence in the region.
Sources within UDA described the State House engagement as an opportunity for Ruto to personally encourage and offer guidance to his candidates ahead of the by-elections. The meeting reflects the party’s commitment to ensuring that its candidates are well-prepared and supported throughout the electoral process.

Preparing for the By-Elections
The November by-elections will see voters in several constituencies head to the polls, including Baringo, Malava, Mbeere North, and Banisa. UDA has nominated candidates in each of these seats, with President Ruto extending his personal support to each.
Party officials said the focus ahead of the elections will be on engaging local communities, presenting development plans, and ensuring that the party’s message reaches all voters. By personally meeting Cheburet and other candidates, Ruto aims to strengthen their campaigns and signal the party’s seriousness in defending its seats.
