Politicians have been asked to shun some section of politicians raising alarm over the nomination of Court of Appeal Judge Martha Koome for the Chief Justice post.

Constitutional lawyer John Walter Wanyonyi has said it is foolhardy for politicians to drive a tribal wedge in the appointment of the new CJ, saying Kenya has come of age and it doesn’t need tribal chieftaincy in matters administration of Justice.

While congratulating lady Justice Martha Koome for emerging the best among all applicants for the post, Wanyonyi said he had high hopes that the new chief Justice is a pillar that shall help rebuild the broken bridges between the two arms of government.

‘’Disobeying court orders, interference and frustration of the judiciary must now end since the hostilities that existed between the Executive and the Judiciary may now look imaginary after the replacement of Justice David Maraga’’, he spoke during an interview with the People Daily in Kitale.

He further called upon President Uhuru Kenyatta to expedite the appointment of 41 judges whom he rejected after relations with the former Chief Justice became sour.

The swearing in of the judges he says would help clear the backlog of cases in various courts countrywide.

Wanyonyi lauded former Chief Justice David Maraga for his sterling achievements despite difficult circumstances and urged the new Chief Justice to follow suit.

He asked the President who is the unifying father figure to ‘let go the pains he underwent after the Supreme Court headed by former Chief Justice David Maraga annulled his win during the 2017 Presidential elections’.

The President is on record saying he will revisit the matter and true to his word, the Judiciary budget was reduced substantially in 2018 and the relationship between the two arms of government deteriorated.
