Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has raised an alarm on corrupt Governors finishing their term and seeking Senatorial positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a post on his official X account on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, Ledama called out corrupt County bosses, describing them as “Thieves masquerading as leaders.”

On his part, while strongly condemning the looting of public funds stated that such leaders who ignored the auditor-general’s warnings have no place in the Senate.

“Thieves masquerading as leaders: Two-term governors who’ve looted counties and ignored auditor-general warnings have no place in the Senate. This travesty mocks our rule of law and betrays Kenyans. We won’t allow it. We must bar them by statute for life,” Ledama stated.

Ledama’s remarks punned out weeks after he fired at Governors for failing to appear before the Senate Public Accounts Committee, maintaining that appearing before the Senate is not a betrayal.

In a statement on his official X account on Monday, March 30, 2026, Ledama cautioned Governors against snubbing the summons, explaining why Article 223 of the Constitution will not come to their rescue.

On his part, the Narok Senator explained that appearing before the Senate ought to be a personal accountability for Governors and not a betrayal to the Council of Governors.

At the same time, Ledama opened up on the possibilities of the Senate blocking the Division of Revenue to Counties, unlike the National Government, which he noted does not have the power to do so.

“You can’t hide behind collective decisions when prosecuted. @KenyaGovernors Appearing before the Senate isn’t betrayal, it’s personal accountability. Remember, the Senate can block the Division of Revenue, and unlike the national government, Article 223 won’t save you. Think carefully, blame won’t shield you this time,” Ledama stated.

Sifuna’s proposal

Meanwhile, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has proposed new regulations that will ensure all governors summoned by the Senate Public Accounts Committee to answer audit queries attend without fail.

Speaking on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, during the Senate proceedings, the Nairobi senator suggested that funds to such county governors’ offices should be stopped.

“We need to stop funds going to some of these people’s counties so that they can appear,” Sifuna stated.

The suggestion follows complaints that some governors skip the special Senate Public Accounts Committee to answer audit queries, with the Samburu governor being on the spot.
