Ole Kanchory raises concerns over composition of IEBC ahead of 2027 polls
Lawyer Saitabao Ole Kanchory has raised concerns over the appointment of Moses Sunkuli as Acting CEO of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Kanchory stated that the move risks undermining public trust in the electoral body ahead of upcoming elections.
In a statement shared on X on Friday, February 6, 2026, Kanchory highlighted what he described as the inner circle running IEBC, linking the team to alleged voter suppression activities in past elections.
“Chebukati’s most trusted lieutenants were Moses Sunkuli (Acting CEO), Obadiah Keitany (Deputy CEO & Head of Support Services), Gideon Balang (Operations), Michael Ouma (ICT) & Dickson Kwanusu (Admin). This is the team that runs IEBC today,” part of Saitabao’s statement reads.
Kanchory went further to call out the officials for what he said is a deliberate sabotage of elections in key counties and manipulation of equipment in opposition strongholds.
“This is the same team that ran a well-calculated and premeditated voter suppression programme by deliberately sabotaging gubernatorial elections in Mbs & Kakamega and supplying defective KIEMS kits in many Azimio strongholds,” he wrote.
He stressed that his warnings are based on personal experience and long-term knowledge of electoral processes in Kenya.
“I have walked these streets before, and I know where the traps and pitfalls are. When I speak about IEBC, I speak from experience and knowledge. I know what I am saying,” part of Kanchory’s statement reads.

Kanchory also criticised those offering opinions on the IEBC without a firsthand understanding of the commission’s operations.
“But no, let’s listen to people here who have an opinion on IEBC, yet they cannot tell their ass from their elbow on matters IEBC,” he stated.
Sunkuli appointed as acting CEO
The IEBC announced the appointment of Moses Ledama Sunkuli as the new acting Chief Executive Officer.
The Electrol Chairman Erustus Ethekon announced that Ledama assumes office as of Thursday, February 5, 2026.
His appointment follows an exit by Marjan Hussein Marjan, who served in the capacity of a CEO until his recent exit from the Commission.
According to the electoral body, Ledama has been serving the commission as a director of electoral operations and hence brings extensive experience and internal institutional knowledge to the CEO role.
