Likoni MP Mishi Mboko has urged that Raila Odinga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement, be given the respect he deserves for his role in guiding one of Kenya’s oldest political parties

Speaking during the ODM @20 celebration in Wajir on September 20, 2025, the Likoni lawmaker hailed the party’s role in bringing about development and freedom of expression in the country.

She specifically referenced the party for championing development and devolution that saw marginalised areas get much-needed development via the devolved structures.

“This area (Wajir) used to be marginalised and lagged with no roads, education or roads, but Baba fought to bring devolution, and today we are here to celebrate devolution and other benefits brought about by the new constitution and unites all as Kenyans,” she said.

“We are glad to belong to the Orange party. A party that unites all Kenyans and one that has decided to put Kenyans’ interests first. Baba is a leader of foresight. He recently joined hands with the government for the peace and stability of the nation. Therefore, we need to respect him as the party leader. He is a leader with foresight and one who must command our respect,” she stated.

Her sentiments were echoed by MP Eve Obara and Fatuma Mohammed, who equally praised the ODM party and its leader, Raila Odinga.

Speaking at the same function, Fatuma, known for her Full Network moniker, extolled the Orange Party in women’s leadership.

Legacy for Baba

The MP cited the leadership and political success of its national chairperson, Gladys Wanga, as a case point.

“Our party does not focus on tribe or gender or age. As a woman, this party has supported me all through, and now I am proud to be an MP under ODM,“ she stated.

On her part, Busia Women representative Catherine Omanyo called for establishing a legacy of devolution that Raila would be proud of.

“Devolution is also an offspring of Baba. So let us ensure that we continue making the party stand strong by electing leaders from the party at all levels,” she implored.

The event brought together the ODM national leadership from across the country, led by national chair and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga. His deputy, Mombasa governor Abdulswammad Nassir and Wajir governor, Ahmed Abdullahi, the party’s National Organising Secretary, were also among those in attendance.
