The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has rolled out the application process for the upcoming by-elections set for November 27, 2025.

This follows the declaration of vacancies by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as outlined in Gazette Notice No. 11160 of August 8, 2025.

In a notice dated September 1 and shared on X on August 29, the party’s National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) invited interested aspirants to submit applications for various seats across the country, signaling ODM’s readiness under the slogan “Tuko Tayari” (We Are Ready).

Positions and application guidelines

ODM is seeking candidates for parliamentary seats in Ugunja and Kasipul constituencies, alongside several county assembly wards including Mumbuni North, Kisa East, Lake Zone, Nanaam, Chewani, Angata Nanyokie, Narok Town, Purko, Nyansiongo, Nyamaiya, Ekerenyo, and Kariobangi North.

According to the notice, application forms are available at the party’s Chungwa House headquarters in Lavington or can be downloaded from its website. Male applicants for Member of National Assembly are required to pay Ksh 250,000 while female aspirants, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will pay Ksh 125,000.

For the MCA positions, men will pay Ksh 50,000 and the latter categories Ksh 25,000. ODM says the tiered fees are meant to encourage broader participation.

Applications must be submitted by Monday, September 8, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.

Membership verification and IEBC timelines

In addition to applications, the party has initiated a membership verification exercise to ensure only registered members take part in the primaries. ODM urged members in the affected constituencies and wards—including newly added areas such as Baringo County, Banissa, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, Chemundu/Kapng’etuny, Fafi, Metkei, Tembelio, and Kabuchai/Chwele—to confirm their details ahead of the polls.

“The exercise is crucial to guarantee smooth participation in the primaries and to ensure verified members alone select ODM candidates,” the party said.

IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon attributed the adjusted timelines to the Commission’s recent reconstitution, noting that Article 259 of the Constitution provides flexibility. Political parties have until September 17, 2025, to submit candidate names, while public officers seeking to contest must resign within seven days. The official campaign period will run from October 8 to November 24, between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily.

NECC Chairperson Hon. Emily Awita signed the notice, underscoring ODM’s commitment to transparency and inclusivity in the nomination process.
