The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) officials braved the chilly morning to take to the streets to celebrate their victory in the Kasipul by-elections on Friday, November 28, 2025.

Led by National Chairperson Gladys Wanga, the ODM brigade took to the streets of Mumbo, a town in Kasipul, to celebrate victory in Thursday’s polls, where Were trounced his 10 competitors.

On an early Friday, November 28, 2025, Returning Officer Rebecca Abwaku announced the results, confirming that Were clinched victory with an impressive 16,819 votes, securing a clear lead over his closest competitor, Philip Nashon Aroko, an independent candidate, who garnered 8,476 votes.

During the event, the victorious youthful MP-elect wowed the crowd by leading them in a recitation of the oath of office he will be taking soon after defeating the ten challengers who were cleared to contest the polls against him.

Other MPs who attended the rally include Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma, among a host of the area MCAs.

Were succeeds his late father, Charles Ongondo Were, as the next MP. The older Were died a gruesome death after being shot in Nairobi in May 2025.

“You are truthful people and did not buy into fear.  You have shown your love for Boyd. He is a young man, and people said he cannot even speak in Luo. “You stuck to him and elected him nonetheless,” Wanga said while extolling the crowd.

ODM retains three seats

The Kasipul victory added to a series of by-election wins delivered by the party across the country, marking an important moment for them ahead of the 2027 General Election.

ODM also claimed victory in Nanaam Ward in Turkana and similarly claimed two other parliamentary seats in Magarini, where Harrison Kombe retained his seat.

The party also bagged the Ugunja seat, where Moses Omondi was declared the new MP, succeeding Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi.
