Infotrak: Gachagua’s DCP is the most popular party in Mt Kenya
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has emerged as the most popular political party in the Mt Kenya region, according to a new Infotrak survey, underscoring the party’s growing influence as political realignments gather pace ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The nationwide poll released on Monday, July 13, 2026, shows DCP commanding 33 per cent support in the Central region, placing it ahead of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which recorded 9 per cent, and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) at 6 per cent.
DCP dominates Mt Kenya
The findings suggest Gachagua’s newly formed party has established an early foothold in Mt Kenya, a region that has traditionally been regarded as one of UDA’s strongest political bases.
Although UDA remains Kenya’s most popular party nationally with 22 per cent, followed closely by ODM at 21 per cent, DCP has emerged as the dominant force within the Central region.
“Across regions and demographic groups, no single political party commands majority support. The largest share nationally is for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) at 22%, followed by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) at 21%,” Infotrak stated.

Many Kenyans remain politically unattached
Despite the competition among political parties, the survey found that a significant number of Kenyans are yet to identify with any political formation.
“A significant proportion of Kenyans do not feel close to any political party: 29% overall across regions and 29% across gender and age groups,” the survey noted.
The findings indicate that while political parties have begun positioning themselves for 2027, nearly one in every three Kenyans remains politically unattached, leaving considerable room for further mobilisation.
The poll also shows DCP attracting 13 per cent support among voters aged 18 to 26 years, while the party records 10 per cent support among voters aged over 55 years, reflecting a relatively broad demographic appeal.
National race remains competitive
Nationally, UDA leads with 22 per cent, ODM follows at 21 per cent, DCP records 9 per cent, Jubilee 6 per cent, while the Wiper Democratic Front stands at 5 per cent.
The survey was conducted among 3,000 respondents across the country.
Jubilee remains among top parties
The findings complement another Infotrak survey released has ranked former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party among Kenya’s five most popular political parties.
The poll placed Jubilee fourth nationally with six per cent support, behind UDA (22 per cent), ODM (21 per cent) and DCP (9 per cent), while Wiper Democratic Front ranked fifth at five per cent.

The survey also found that 29 per cent of respondents do not identify with any political party, highlighting a sizeable bloc of voters that political formations will seek to win over as campaigns towards the 2027 General Election gather momentum.
