The Orange Democratic Party (ODM) has announced that it has issued direct tickets to its candidates in Magarini Constituency and the Fafi Ward ahead of the upcoming by-elections.

Speaking while presenting the candidates in the upcoming by-elections on Friday, September 12, 2025, the National Elections Coordination Committee (NECC), led by Emily Awita, revealed that the party has also handed over tickets to unopposed aspirants in several contested seats.

Kisa East, Chewani ward in Tana River County, Purko in Kajiado, and Angata, Nyakokie, and Nanam wards in Turkana County had no opponents, hence were picked as unopposed candidates for the party.

“Magarini Constituency and Fafi Ward candidates were awarded direct party tickets by the party,” she confirmed.

“Where there is more than one aspirant, the party primaries will be conducted between September 24 and 27, 2025. The NECC is fully prepared and will ensure that the exercise is a free, fair, and transparent exercise,” she stated.

The Magarini parliamentary seat fell vacant after the Supreme Court nullified Harrison Kombe’s win in the August 2022 elections.

She further restated the party’s commitment to respect Kenyan wishes in leadership and representation.

Her comments come after party’s National chairperson, Gladys Wanga, also spoke on the upcoming byelections.

Wanga’s pledges parties readiness

Speaking at the same function, Wanga reiterated ODM’s readiness to clinch more seats in the coming polls.

“For the candidates in wards and constituencies where we will be conducting nominations, we will begin that process very credible. The coordinating committee is independent and will run its own operations as we run other affairs of the party,” she stated

She also assured the various candidates of the party’s goodwill and continued support heading to the vital mid-term elections.

“We are starting our journey, we are prepared and ready with our candidates. We will leave no stone unturned to campaign in every corner of the country and will be well supported,” she stated.

Wanga also maintained that the party remains keen to win as many seats as it can as it seeks to cement its dominance in the Kenyan political landscape.

“We want to show that ODM remain the largest party and we will retain our seats and hope to get more seats in the polls,” she added.
