Obado impeachment motion fails to kick off
The much-anticipated impeachment motion against Migori governor Okoth Obado failed to take off yesterday with Oramge Democratic Moveement (ODM) party attributing the delay to technicalities.
Motion of impeachment was expected to be tabled on the floor of the House for debate as earlier announced by OFM national chairman John Mbadi.
Speaking to People Daily on phone, Mbadi said the motion would now be tabled mid next week and not this week as earlier announced. Said Mbadi; “The reason as to why we have the delay is simple; it is a legal process which our lawyer is looking at.
There are details that he must include and that will take a little more time.”
Encountered challenges Mbadi downplayed claims that the party had encountered some challenges in executing the impeachment process.
“All the party MCAs have signed and are ready for the process. So whoever is saying that we have some hitches is wrong because on our side we are ready,” he added.
Majority leader Ken Ooro also confirmed that all the 33 ODM MCAs had been whipped to support the party’s position.
“The party has maintained its position on the motion and since we are the majority, we believe that the party’s decision will carry the day,” he said.
Last weekend, Mbadi chaired a delegates meeting in Migori to reiterate the party’s position on the impeachment of Obado.
Obado has accused Mbadi and other senior party officials of being behind his woes.
The governor has however maintained that he does not fear being impeached and dared the party to go ahead with the move.
