Ngunjiri Wambugu faults Gachagua over his remarks on boycotting specific businesses

Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has faulted former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for asking a section of Mt Kenya residents not to visit specific business premises.
In a brief statement shared late on Saturday, June 21, 2025, Ngunjiri, who served as Gachagua’s aide before impeachment, indicated that such pronouncements would have grave repercussions for Mt Kenya residents.
Wambugu argued that if other leaders also retaliate by asking their people to boycott specific businesses, Mt Kenya residents would be among those who feel the heat, as they are among the leading entrepreneurs in the country.
“As Gachagua instructs Merukans on businesses to frequent, he forgets Mt Kenyans have businesses everywhere,” Wambugu stated.
“So kingpins wao wakiamrisha watu wao wasiende biashara zetu?” he posed.
Which loosely translates to: “What if their kingpins order their people to boycott our businesses?”

In a separate post, Wambugu slammed Gachagua over his sentiments, where he asked residents not to visit a hotel that he claimed belonged to Ruto in Nyeri.
Wambugu maintained that Gachagua’s move could lead to the alienation of the Mt Kenya region.

Gachagua’s sentiments
During his three-day tour of the Meru region on Friday, June 20, 2025, the Democracy for Citizen Party (DCP) leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua renewed his attacks on Ruto by claiming that he owned a hotel in the region.
Gachagua went on to claim that Ruto was building a road leading to the hotel.

“Nguvu yetu ni kukaa tukiwa pamoja. Sasa wewe Kasongo, badala utujengee barabara ya kutupelekea mazao kwa factoria, wewe unajenga barabara ya kuenda kwa hoteli yako, na unafikiria Wameru ni wajinga watakuja kukunywa chai katika hoteli yako… Kasongo anyolewe, asinyolewe,” Gachagua stated.
Miraa business
On Saturday, June 21, 2025, Gachagua continued with his onslaught by claiming that the president’s child took over the miraa business together with Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale.
“Ruto was blocking us from coming to Tigania because we would reveal the truth. Your child and Duale have infiltrated the miraa business and caused problems to our people,” Gachagua said.
However, Ruto, who was also in Meru on Saturday, June 21, 2025, steered clear of Gachagua’s rhetoric and promised to elevate the town to city status.
