The Party of National Unity (PNU) party leader Peter Munya has called for unity in Meru county, urging residents to focus on electing visionary and development oriented leaders during the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Meru on Monday, February 3, 2025, when he opened various PNU offices, Munya said that it was unfortunate that the region was losing a lot in terms of national development due to the ongoing wrangles between Governor Kawira Mwangaza and the County Assembly .

He noted that the Meru community should be keen to vote leaders who have the willingness and capacity to implement projects and programmes that will transform their lives and boost the economy of the region.

Munya on Governor Kawira

Blaming the embattled governor for the failure to unite and cooperate with other elected leaders, the former Agriculture cabinet secretary underplayed her development track records accusing her of wasting public resources on court cases instead of using the funds to initiate development projects.

Munya, who spoke in Mikinduri (Tigania East), Laare ( Igembe North ), and Maua (Igembe South) during his two-day event, emphasized that the electorate should avoid wasting time on individuals whose only campaign platform is division, chest-thumping, and empty rhetoric.

Munya’s gubernatorial bid

Calling on the locals to rally behind him and reelect him for the seat come the next general elections, Munya assured the region of being fully committed to uniting and reviving the grounded and initiating new developments in the area to bring back the lost glory

“Supremacy battles should end to pave way for developments. I am a very disappointed person because I voted and supported governor Kawira but she has failed to bring transformative and tangible developments and projects which can benefit the locals and this is a clear indication that she was tasked with duties beyond her ability,” Munya said.

The PNU party leader further claimed that since Meru governor Kawira was elected, Meru county has been lagging behind due to dramas and rhetorical politics surrounding her leadership.

“ When there is no unity among elected leaders starting with the governor, a region remain disadvantaged because there is no team work lobbying and this is the case in Meru region. Many developments have stagnated due to lack of unity,” Munya averted.

“All the development projects I had initiated as your first governor like Meru Microfinance to empower the banking sector actors, Ambulances in many hospitals, provision of drugs in hospitals, drilling of boreholes among others stopped.”

Accompanied by party leaders and delegates he at the same said the outfit is in negotiations with other parties with the national outlook and like minded parties to form a strong political umbrella ahead of 2027.

He further said that they will embark on serious party membership recruitment exercise from the grassroots level, urging leaders in his camp especially PNU candidates to conduct peaceful campaigns when time comes.
