Sirisia Member of Parliament (MP) John Waluke has scoffed at the leaders of the United Opposition as weaklings, stating that only ODM leader Raila Odinga was a strong opposition leader.

Speaking on Saturday, July 5, 2025, in Sirisia, Walukhe discouraged the opposition politicians from harbouring any ambition of ousting President William Ruto in 2027, noting that it was practically impossible.

“The current opposition in the country is very weak. As far as I am concerned, the strongest opposition leader used to be Raila Odinga,” Waluke observed.

Sitting president

“I have seen them doing rounds here in the Western region, saying how they will be victorious in 2027. Let me be very clear with you, nobody can defeat a sitting president.” Waluke said.

The legislator equally urged residents in the area to register as voters and obtain identification documents in readiness for the 2027 general elections.

He stated that he has been tasked with solving the elusive Luhya unity, noting that the community will have a president in 2032.

“We have realised that it is impossible for any one community to produce a president in these times. However, we want to assure you that we shall support the re-election of President William Ruto in 2027, and in 2032, we shall have a president from among us,” Walukhe noted.

Western region tour

This comes just a day after area leaders, led by Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, toured the region, promising unity ahead of the 2027 polls.

Speaking during the Western region tour by the opposition leaders on Thursday, July 3, 2025, in Kakamega Town, Natembeya declared that the days of outsiders making decisions on behalf of the Luhya nation are over.

“Starting in 2027, moving forward, the Luhya community will never be divided again. On tables where issues are being discussed for us to be planned for, we are going there directly,” Natembeya stated.

“We don’t want political projects in the Western region. Those who bought the Mumias, Nzoia, and Pan Paper factories, we are telling them that once we come into power, we will chase them away. We will reclaim our property,” he added.
