Mudavadi’s earthquake had little impact on OKA
The earthquake that was meant to wreak political havoc has instead reinvigorated One Kenya Alliance. Kalonzo Musyoka has come out strongly and he probably holds sway as things hot up in the run up to the General Election.
People talk of the 1.2 million Kamba nation votes, yet if you include members of the community in the diaspora, especially in the Coast region, that number goes up.
And they have solidly supported Kalonzo over the years.
One thing about Kalonzo is that he is a pragmatic politician. In 2013, even after he had served President Kibaki with loyalty, he realised that the best option was to join Cord and work with like-minded leaders.
Going by the last General election, it is only Kalonzo who should be considered a political principal in OKA. The number of MPs and governors from his party speak of a leader who has some command.
Juxtapose, that with the two new Kenya Kwanza principals Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula.
In the last election, both Jubilee and ODM trounced ANC and Ford Kenya in most of the counties and constituencies in the Western region.
With DAP-K sweeping Bungoma and Trans Nzoia and ANC MPs and Senators fleeing to Azimio La Umoja, Mudavadi and Wetang’ula are becoming isolated.
To assuage their flagging fortunes, they are claiming that Raila Odinga is President Uhuru Kenyatta’s project. These claims are unfounded, but it is an open secret who the President does not want to succeed him and he has the democratic right to support whoever he wants.
It is naive to think that the President just woke up and decided to take this direction.
In fact, other than the many other things that the President may have seen, which we may not be privy to, Raila has been a defender of the common mwananchi and with his immense political capital, it is safe to conclude that Uhuru has gone with what the people want.
A man who actively contributed to the second liberation, he has run against the President twice, but turned back and shook hands after a tumultuous election to support Uhuru in changing the lives of Kenyans for the better.
The State project talk is pure misinformation for political expediency. The claim that Kenyans will reject Raila the way they rejected Uhuru 20 years ago is misleading.
Fact is, Uhuru was not ready in 2002. When his time came in 2013, he won against all odds and redefined the presidency with grand infrastructure projects.
