Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has asked those eyeing his seat to stop confusing locals with their early campaigns. He regretted that politicians interested in governorship positions had put the county in a campaign mood, only two and a half years since the last election.

“When you move around the county, you see locals lined up at roadsides waiting for governor aspirants. You may think elections will be held tomorrow,” he noted.

The county boss cautioned aspirants that early campaigns will drain their pockets before 2027. He said those who want to inherit his seat should be careful with the electorates, as they always praise everyone who oils their hands.

“Bungoma voters are very cunning; they may assure you of winning because they are after your cash, and when the real day comes, you have no one to elect you,” said the Ford Kenya deputy party leader.

Additional resources

Lusaka, who is serving his last term, told the locals that he would give them direction.

Speaking in Tongaren constituency when he launched the free distribution of fertiliser and maize seeds, Lusaka said he would not leave the county in bad hands. The free farm inputs will benefit 500 people in all 45 wards across the county

Lusaka urged farmers to make the most of the free farm inputs to enhance food security in the county. Under the initiative, each vetted farmer receives 10 kilogrammes of maize seeds and 50 kilogrammes of fertiliser.

Lusaka also called on the County Assembly to increase funding for the programme in the next financial year to expand its reach.

“Currently, we are supporting 500 farmers per ward. With additional resources, we can increase this number to 700, ensuring more farmers benefit,” he added.
